A Museum-Quality Challenge
A client needed a museum-quality clear plastic vitrine to act as a cover for an existing display unit. The manufacturing process used a polymerizable cement to bind several components together. Using this museum quality cement around bends can cause crazing (or stress cracking), marring the finished product. If improperly done, the material actually cracks.
THE CHALLENGE:
To manufacture a museum-quality cover with multiple bend radii to fit snugly over an existing framework, while at the same time eliminating the stress crazing that is typical when using museum-quality cements on heat-bent acrylic.
THE SOLUTION
TuBro Company engineers used our specialized forming techniques as well as our proprietary annealing process to eliminate all stress crazing in the bent/formed areas. We supplied a beautiful looking museum quality cover that will last “in the field” for years to come.
