TuBro Company 40th Anniversary
TuBro Company in the 1980’s
The 1980’s continued the work begun in the 1970’s. Our acrylic fabrication department expanded, providing museum quality vitrines to exhibit houses as well as museums throughout the country. A variety of point of purchase displays became an important part of TuBro’s growth. Especially acrylic slatwall displays. In the early 80’s VHS rentals began to boom. Every shopping center had a movie rental store and every movie rental store showcased their movies on the wall using acrylic slatwall displays. Other merchandizing items including custom store displays and point of purchase displays helped us to grow.

The 80’s provided continued growth in the plastic welding department. The photo developer tank was a large part of the reason why. Prior to digital cameras, film was developed using equipment that processed the film through a caustic solution. Once processed the pictures were developed in various sizes. Welded PVC tanks that are impervious to the caustic solution allowed film developing equipment to be safer, cleaner and more affordable.

Another reason for the growth of plastic welding was the fabrication of the polypropylene feedpack housings for the paper industry. The chemical resistance of the polypropylene and the ability to have welds as strong as the material itself worked perfectly to protect the contents inside the housing.
Vacuum forming took off in the 1980’s. Although the TuBro Company began vacuum forming in the 1970’s, the 80’s started with the purchase of an automated vacuum forming machine. The vacuum forming machine enabled more precise times and temperatures, resulting in more consistent products. Products such as machine guards, trays, clock housings and trade show exhibits all began in the 80’s.

The 1980’s ended with the Tubro Company Inc. occupying the entire building on Council Rock Drive. Also, discussion was underway for an addition to help support a large jump in equipment and inventory.
